Troye Sivan Announces Involvement In Upcoming Film ‘Boy Erased’
Troye Sivan announced via twitter and Instagram the trailer for ‘Boy Erased,’ a coming of age film based on a true story of the inner-workings of a gay conversion therapy. The film features Nicole Kidman, Robert Crowe, and Sivan himself. The pop singer-songwriter plays a conversion therapy survivor and follows the story of a young man (Lucas Hedges) as he endures treatment per his Baptist parents’ instruction. Additionally, at least two songs written by Sivan are featured in the movie, as seen in the official trailer.Based on a historically sensitive and controversial topic, the timely film promises an emotional and eye-opening gaze into homophobia, with a breathtaking theatrical and musical performance from Sivan.
As an openly gay pop star, Troye Sivan’s contribution to the film is invaluable –– he delivers wholehearted passion and expression of truth in his single “Revelation,” as heard in a snippet of the trailer. The song was written by Sivan and Jónsi and is yet to be released, but will be included on the film’s soundtrack. Also featured is Sivan’s track, “The Good Side,” which was released on all streaming platformsin January. In an interview with Genius, Sivan explained the significance of the song, revealing that the lyrics were written as an apology amidst a painful breakup. He sings, “I got the good side of things / Left you with both of the rings / My fingers danced and swayed in the breeze / The change in the wind took you down to your knees.” Known for incorporating elements of the LGBTQ+ experience and his personal struggle in his music, the film is reflective of a universal endeavor for equality and understanding.
