ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINING TOUR
Today, Glass Animals have announced the release of their highly anticipated new album How To Be A Human Being on August 26th via Harvest Records, available for pre-order now. This announcement coincides with the reveal of their new video for ‘Life Itself,‘ which is the first single to be taken from the album. Watch ‘Life Itself’ here: http://smarturl.it/GA_ofLifevid.
Lead singer and producer Dave Bayley makes a point of not listening to his contemporaries when making music, preferring to look inwards to the world Glass Animals have built. In crafting “Life Itself,” his thoughts returned to one factor he couldn’t have even dreamt of during the making of their debut album Zaba: the huge live audiences they had been drawing on their last tour. Dave remarked, “You sense what the crowds react to: big drums, bass, high tempo.” The band will bring this immersive, exotic and characteristically off-kilter earworm to the live stage, along with the brand-new tracks off of How To Be A Human Being, as they embark on a North American headlining tour this fall. The 14-date tour will kick off September 24th at The Ritz in Raleigh, NC and will run through October 16th at The Greek in Los Angeles, CA, including 2 nights at New York City’s Terminal 5. These tour dates will follow Glass Animals’ previously announced summer festival performances (see below for full list of tour dates). Tickets for their U.S tour dates will go on-sale June 10th and you can get exclusive early access to the band’s ticket pre-sale by pre-ordering any item from their official U.S store (http://smarturl.it/GA_D2C), which includes the Extremely Limited Deluxe Double LP, autographed lithos, t-Shirts, and CD.
‘Life Itself’ was released on May 16th and has since amassed over 2 million streams. Entertainment Weekly featured ‘Life Itself’ as one of the best new singles of the week, declaring “thanks to an irresistible percussion line and frontman Dave Bayley’s twinkling production, it soars.” Under the Radar called the track an “immaculately produced gem,” and Consequence of Sound proclaimed “it’s the sort of stomping, globe-trotting hit you’d want to release for the summer. The chorus will slip and slide through your ears with ease, so watch out.” ‘Life Itself’ has reached top 10 on the Spotify U.S. Viral Chart and top 5 on the Spotify Global Viral Chart.
How To Be A Human Being is a scrapbook of their time spent on the road, gathering memories and perceptions of different types of people from all around the world. Many of Dave’s lyrical ideas came from live recordings of people saved on his phone, as though he’d been operating as some sort of roaming journalist all this time. “I try to sneakily record people, and I have hours and hours of these amazing rants from taxi drivers, strange people we met outside of shows, people at parties. People say the strangest shit when they don’t think they’re ever gonna see you again.” The voice notes sparked ideas for characters that Dave developed, writing an album like a TV screenwriter might approach a script. “I’d obsess over what they ate, where they lived, what their furniture looked like, what they wore,” he laughs.
Glass Animals’ rise has gained the Oxford four-piece a legion of fans all over the world. The band’s debut Zaba, released on Harvest Records, has so far sold nearly half a million copies worldwide and amassed 200 million Spotify streams.
