KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” Airs Yorn’s Apogee Session Today
Headline Tour Kicks Off March 15 At NYC’s Irving Plaza
ArrangingTime (Capitol Records) – Pete Yorn’s first solo studio album in more than five years – is available now. The acclaimed Los Angeles-based artist is celebrating his release with a series of media appearances and a North American tour. Yorn will perform on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on March 16 and “CBS Saturday Morning” on March 19. During his return visit to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” earlier this week, he performed the album’s lead single, “Lost Weekend.” View Yorn’s performance HERE. His Apogee Session airs today on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic.” In a review of the intimate session, Los Angeles Magazine observed, “There were only four people playing, but the sonic layers of guitars and strings and catchy melodies on the tunes from ArrangingTime filled the room…when I first heard ‘Lost Weekend,’ it took me back to the way I felt when I first heard ‘Life on a Chain’ in 2001. And it felt good.”
His North American tour kicks off next Tuesday, March 15, with a show at New York City’s Irving Plaza. The run will wrap up with performances at Coachella on April 17 and 24. See below for itinerary. Earlier this week, Yorn played shows in London, Paris and Berlin.
In an 8/10 review, Uncut hailed ArrangingTime as “a creative reboot” while AllMusic.com found its “enveloping warmth…alluring” and The Independent heralded it as a “jangly, cosmic rock album” in this feature. A.V. Club noted, “ArrangingTime is a throwback to the dusky rock vibe and piercing lyrical moodiness of [his first] two records, with enough slight detours (the danceable ’80s backbeat of ‘Tomorrow,’ the Beck-esque psych-rock swirls of opening tune ‘Summer Was A Day’) to ensure Yorn isn’t repeating himself.”
ArrangingTime, which is Yorn’s sixth solo studio album and first for Capitol Records, streamed exclusively on Apple Music in the week leading up to its release. It marks his first collaboration with producer R. Walt Vincent since the two albums that launched Yorn’s career – 2001’s RIAA Gold-certified debut, musicforthemorningafter, and 2003’s Day I Forgot. ArrangingTime follows Yorn’s acclaimed 2010 self-titled album, recorded with The Pixies’ Frank Black, and a pair of adventurous collaborations – 2009’s Break Up with Scarlett Johansson and The Olms (2013), a ’60s-styled retro-pop duo with J.D. King.
